Digital transformation is an important topic in every boardroom today and top-of-mind for CIOs across all industries. As cloud adoption accelerates and enterprises move to more modern architectures such as microservices and Kubernetes, we see service mesh as a critical component of the new technology stack. Momentum and market adoption of service mesh has been building as enterprises encounter increasing complexity managing their microservices environments. Today, we’re excited to announce our investment in Tetrate, an enterprise-ready service mesh provider on a mission to create the next generation of cloud networking.
We believe in Tetrate’s philosophy of meeting enterprise customers wherever they are in their digital transformation journey. By bringing the best of open source together with its commercial offering purpose-built for the enterprise, Tetrate helps organizations build and manage cloud-native applications and services to modernize their environments across private, hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Tetrate’s service mesh platform significantly reduces complexity around deployment and management, offering enterprise customers greater operability, reliability, security and observability. As a result, organizations can see real business impact from the increased speed, efficiency, and agility of their development teams.
With deep roots in the open source ecosystem and impressive technical expertise, the Tetrate team has vast knowledge about what it takes to build and operate a service mesh. We were immediately inspired by the vision and thought leadership of Co-Founders Varun Talwar and Jeyappragash (JJ) Jeyakeerthi. Varun was a co-creator of Istio at Google, one of the open source projects upon which Tetrate is built. JJ previously led Twitter’s Cloud Infrastructure Management Platform. In addition, the Tetrate team includes many other key contributors to Istio and Envoy.
We’re thrilled to support Tetrate as they scale their enterprise-grade service mesh platform, and excited to work alongside our co-investors Sapphire Ventures, Scale Venture Partners, Dell Technologies Capital, Intel Capital, 8VC, and Samsung NEXT.
Congratulations, Tetrate team!
